Mussoorie, Sept. 12 -- Two elderly sisters from Rajasthan died on Friday morning after they lost consciousness while taking a holy dip in the Tapt Kund, a sacred thermal spring, at Badrinath in Chamoli district, officials said. The deceased were identified as Ramu Devi, 71, a resident of Bhilwara, Rajasthan, and Prema Devi, around 63. Police said the two were sisters and had been accompanying fellow pilgrims when the incident occurred. According to police, the Badrinath police station received information at around 5 am that two women had fallen unconscious in the Tapt Kund. A police team reached the spot and found both women lying unconscious on the floor of the kund. Fellow pilgrims accompanying the women told police that Ramu Devi and Prema Devi had suddenly lost consciousness while taking a dip in the pool. Police and SDRF personnel administered first aid and CPR to both women before shifting them by ambulance to the Government Primary Health Centre in Badrinath. Doctors declared them dead. Sunil Purohit, executive officer of the Badrinath Nagar Panchayat, said the bodies were subsequently handed over to the family members.
