Two more cops sent to lines; fourth accused held in Chandauli
Lucknow, June 2 -- A day after the ACP and station house officer (SHO) of Vibhuti Khand police station were removed over alleged lapses in handling the murder of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader, two more police personnel were sent to the police lines on Sunday as disciplinary action widened in the case.
Meanwhile, the investigation received a shot in the arm after police in Chandauli arrested an accused wanted in connection with the case.
According to Akash Patel, SP, Chandauli, Anuj Singh, a named accused in the killing of BJYM functionary Shivam Singh had been absconding since the incident. He was arrested on May 31 by a Mughalsarai police team during a routine verification drive using the police department's "Yaksha App".
Lucknow Police had earlier identified Anuj as the fourth accused in the murder of Shivam Singh outside a nightclub in Vibhuti Khand late on May 25.
Deputy commissioner of police (East) Diksha Sharma said sub-inspectors Gyan Singh and Mohit Kumar were attached to police lines for negligence in connection with the incident. Both officers were posted at police outposts under the jurisdiction of Vibhuti Khand police station, where the crime took place.
The action comes a day after ACP Vibhuti Khand Vinay Kumar Dwivedi was transferred to the traffic department and SHO Amit Kumar Singh was sent to the police lines. Singh had taken charge of the police station only around six months ago after his predecessor, Sunil Kumar Singh, was removed following another club-related law and order incident in the area.
The disciplinary measures follow the murder of 28-year-old BJYM functionary, Shivam Singh, a resident of Ayodhya, who was allegedly attacked after a dispute outside Jalwa Club in Vibhuti Khand, late on the night of May 25.
Police said the altercation began when one of the accused allegedly demanded an extra cigarette from Singh and his friends.
After an argument, the accused allegedly chased the group, intercepted their vehicle near Lucknow Public School in Vinamra Khand and assaulted Singh with stones, causing grievous injuries.
Singh succumbed to his injuries on May 27 while undergoing treatment.
Police have arrested three accused - Shantanu alias Ankit Rawat of Daliganj, Honey Tiwari alias Vivek Tiwari of Aliganj, and Vivek Singh of Azamgarh district. Another accused, Anuj Singh, remains absconding and efforts are underway to trace him, police said.
During a search, police recovered a .315 bore country-made firearm and two live cartridges from him. A separate case under the Arms Act was registered against him at Mughalsarai police station.
"During questioning, Anuj told police that he had purchased the firearm in Azamgarh and was carrying it to Bihar's Siwan district. He also admitted to having multiple criminal cases registered against him," a police release added....
