Two killed as speeding truck hits bicycle
VARANASI, Sept. 15 -- Two people were killed after being hit by a speeding truck near Bami village on Varanasi-Azamgarh road under Lalganj police station area of Azamgarh on Monday. The incident occurred when they were crossing the road.
The deceased, identified as Shivnath, 50, a resident of Bami village, and his 13-year-old nephew Priyanshu, had gone to the river on the same bicycle on Monday morning to attend nature's call.
While returning home, they were hit by a speeding truck near a petrol pump. Both suffered serious injuries and fell on the road. Bystanders rushed to their aid, but they had died by then.
Following the accident, angry villagers blocked both lanes of National Highway 135, disrupting traffic.
Station house officer Ved Prakash Pandey arrived at the scene with police force and pacified the villagers and family members. After considerable persuasion, one side of the road was opened, allowing vehicular traffic to resume.
Pandey said that both the bodies were sent for post mortem examination. The truck has been seized, and a team has been deployed to ensure arrest of the driver....
