PRAYAGRAJ, July 15 -- Two men riding a motorcycle were killed on the spot after a trailer veered off the Varanasi-Kanpur National Highway, broke through the roadside railing and crashed onto the service road near the Mendara underpass in Nawabganj late on Monday night. Police said passers-by alerted them about the accident, following which a team rushed to the spot. A preliminary investigation found that the Rajasthan-registered trailer went out of control while travelling on the highway, broke the railing and fell onto the service road, hitting the motorcycle carrying the two victims. The deceased were identified as Sunil Pandey alias Maste ,49, son of late Sarvanand Pandey and a resident of Nem Ka Pura under Nawabganj police station, and Raj Kumar Modanwal ,45, son of Satyanarayan Modanwal and a resident of Kaudihar, Nawabganj. A large number of local residents gathered at the spot after the accident. The trailer driver fled, abandoning the vehicle before police reached the scene. Police are making efforts to trace and arrest him. Police took custody of the bodies, completed the inquest proceedings and sent them to the SRN Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. The victims' families were informed through the motorcycle's registration details. Nawabganj station house officer (SHO) Pankaj Awasthi said the exact cause of the accident is being investigated and necessary action is being taken to apprehend the absconding trailer driver....
