Two killed, six injured after trailer rams into passengers waiting for bus
Meerut, June 24 -- Two people, including a five-year-old girl, were killed and six others injured when a speeding trailer truck ran over passengers waiting for a bus on the Delhi-Lucknow Highway in Hapur district early Tuesday morning. The accident occurred near Sona Cut in the Hapur Dehat police station area.
According to police, the victims were among a group of passengers travelling from Sitapur to Delhi and Noida aboard a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus from the Sitapur depot. The bus reportedly developed a mechanical fault near Sona Cut during the early hours of Tuesday, forcing passengers to disembark and wait by the roadside for another bus.
While the passengers were standing near the highway, a high-speed trailer truck allegedly lost control and ploughed into the group. The impact left eight people injured and two later succumbed to their injuries. The deceased have been identified as Nayra, 5, and Meera, 22, residents of Bargama village in Sitapur district. Police said the two were aunt and niece.
Following the collision, the trailer driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police teams from Hapur Dehat and Hafizpur police stations rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The injured were taken to a Community Health Centre and the district hospital for treatment.
