Two hurt as SUV hits bike; CCTV footage goes viral
LUCKNOW, May 25 -- Two youths were injured after a speeding SUV allegedly collided with their motorcycle and sped off the spot in Ghazipur area here on Saturday night. A CCTV video later went viral on social media, triggering outrage over reckless driving in the city.
According to police, the incident occurred around 10.30pm near Sector-18 in Indira Nagar when Kartikeya Tripathi and Amit Singh were returning home on a motorcycle.
As per the complaint lodged by Kartikeya, a resident of Indira Nagar, the Thar came from the opposite direction at high speed and crashed head-on into their bike. The impact flung both riders several feet into the air before they fell on the roadside.
Eyewitnesses said the SUV driver did not stop after the collision and instead sped off the scene. The damaged motorcycle reportedly got stuck under the vehicle and was dragged for some distance as the driver fled.
The viral CCTV footage purportedly shows the black Thar hitting the motorcycle at high speed moments before the two youths are thrown off the road.
Ghazipur police said both injured youths were taken to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. Kartikeya suffered a leg fracture while Amit sustained minor injuries. In an official statement, police said officers reached the spot immediately after receiving information and inspected the scene.
