AGRA, Sept. 6 -- Two men were arrested with 200 counterfeit Rs.500 notes, worth Rs.1 lakh, in a joint operation by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Soron police in Kasganj district on Friday evening. Police said an informer had alerted them that the two men were repeatedly being seen at fairs in the area and were involved in suspicious activities. Based on the information, police kept an eye on their movements. The two were later arrested on suspicion during the operation near the Mela ground in Kasganj city. The arrested men were identified as Roop Kishore alias Raju, a resident of a village in Badaun district, and Govind, a resident of Kasganj. The Kasganj police media cell said counterfeit currency worth Rs.1 lakh was recovered from them. The two were produced before a court in Kasganj and sent to judicial custody. A case under Sections 178, 179, 180, 181 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against them. The arrest also revealed that the alleged kingpin of the network was operating from neighbouring Badaun district, police said.Police said one of the accused has a long criminal history, with around a dozen cases registered against him in Sambhal, Aligarh and Badaun districts.
