LUCKNOW, July 2 -- A long-running land dispute between two groups turned violent in Gopalpur village under Rahimabad police station limits on Wednesday, leaving several people injured and triggering a police response after a licenced pistol was allegedly fired during the clash. A heavy police force has been deployed in the village to prevent any further escalation. Police said the situation is under control and peace has been restored, while officers continue to monitor the area. According to the Lucknow Police statement, the violence broke out when Ram Singh Yadav, Anil Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar Rawat reached their disputed land and found members of the rival group, including Ghanshyam Yadav, Savitri and Santosh, already present there. A heated argument soon escalated into a physical fight, with both sides allegedly attacking each other with sticks, kicks and punches. Police said eyewitnesses reported that Anil Kumar fired one round from his licenced pistol during the altercation. However, a medical examination confirmed that no one sustained a bullet injury. "Several people from both the groups were injured in the clash and were initially taken to the community health centre in Malihabad. One seriously injured person from each side was later referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre for speciali- sed treatment," said AK Trigunayak. Police said they reached the spot soon after receiving information and collected evidence from the scene. No complaint had been filed by either side till the filing of this report.
