Two friends drown, three saved in Yamuna
letters@htlive.com, Feb. 25 -- Two teenagers died when five friends went to bathe in the Yamuna at Chekwa Ghat, in Sarai Akil area of Kaushambi district, on Tuesday.
The five friends-Shivam (16), grandson of Chakkan, who had come to his maternal home for his High School exams; Kuldeep Vishwakarma (16), son of Dev Narayan; Ravin (13), son of Rajkumar; Aryan (11), son of Amar; and Hasan (13), son of Wasim Ahmed-went to the river in the afternoon. While bathing, Shivam stepped into deep water and started drowning. His friends tried to save him, but in the process, they all slipped into deeper water.
A local boatman, Raja, who was fishing nearby, noticed the commotion and rushed to the scene. Jumping into the river, he managed to rescue three of the boys. Unfortunately, Shivam and Kuldeep could not be saved.
Local boatmen and villagers joined the rescue efforts, and after nearly an hour, the bodies of Shivam and Kuldeep were recovered, much to the grief of their families. Police reached the site, conducted inquiries, and sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination....
