PRAYAGRAJ, July 27 -- The Civil Lines police station registered two separate FIRs, including attempted murder charges, in connection with the vandalism of a Toyota Fortuner and another car during a student protest in the city on Saturday. Police have begun examining CCTV footage and videos from the area to identify those involved in the violence. One complaint was lodged by Rohit Dwivedi, son of former Banda MP Ramesh Chandra Dwivedi, who alleged that miscreants not only vandalised his Fortuner but also attempted to kill his driver. In a separate complaint, Prashant Pathak, a BJP leader from Chakghat in Rewa district, alleged that his car was targeted near Subhash Chowk. Pathak stated that the vehicle, which displayed a BJP flag and identification board, was suddenly attacked by a group of miscreants. He alleged that the attackers threatened to kill him, smashed the vehicle's windows, severely damaged the car, and stole a laptop kept inside the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Deputy commissioner of police (city) Manish Shandilya said that some elements attempted to provoke violence during the student protest, leading to incidents of vehicle vandalism. He added that police are identifying the accused through CCTV recordings and video evidence collected from the area.
