Two Etah cops suspended after women allege harassment on road
AGRA, May 23 -- Two policemen, including a sub-inspector, were suspended in Etah after two women, one of them a lawyer, alleged that the policemen chased them in a private car and tried to forcibly stop them on the road.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Etah Elamaran G ordered the suspension of sub-inspector Rahul Baliyan and head constable Dharmendra Kumar after a preliminary inquiry found them guilty of indiscipline. Both have also been shifted to police lines, police said.
According to the complaint, the women were travelling on a scooty when the policemen, dressed in plain clothes and travelling in a private car, allegedly followed them for nearly two kilometres and repeatedly asked them to stop despite the road being clear. The women alleged that the policemen identified themselves and threatened them. A video of the incident later went viral on social media.
Additional superintendent of police Shwetabh Pandey said the incident took place within the Kotwali police station limits in Etah on Thursday.
During questioning, the policemen claimed the scooty had brushed against their car and that they stopped the women for this reason.
"Both policemen were brought to the police station where it was found that they were drunk. They were prima facie found guilty of indiscipline and suspended. A detailed inquiry has also been ordered," the ASP said....
