PRAYAGRAJ, May 25 -- Two tragic drowning incidents claimed the lives of an 18-year-old youth and a nine-year-old girl in separate locations across the region on Sunday. In the first incident, 18-year-old Nitin Gautam drowned in the Sai River near Baba Belkharnath Dham in Pratapgarh district. The deceased, a resident of Narayanpur Chaubepur village under Kandhai police station limits, had visited the shrine with five friends to offer prayers. Nitin entered the Sai River to bathe before performing Jalabhishek. While bathing, he drifted beneath a nearby bridge, slipped into deep water, and disappeared from sight. His friends and other onlookers raised an alarm, prompting locals to rush to the spot. Police outpost in-charge Devendra Pathak initiated a search operation with the help of local divers, but initial efforts failed to locate him. Later, an SDRF team was subsequently called in, recovering Nitin's body around 1.30 pm, approximately 25 metres downstream from the bridge pillar where the incident occurred. In a separate incident in neighbouring Kaushambi district, nine-year-old Roli Mishra drowned while bathing at the Umarwal Ghat on the Yamuna River. She had gone there with her family. During the bath, the girl was swept into deep currents, triggering panic among her relatives, who shouted for help. The commotion drew a large crowd to the ghat, and local boatmen present nearby immediately dived into the river to assist in the search. After a strenuous rescue effort lasting nearly an hour, Roli's body was recovered from the river.htc...
