PRAYAGRAJ, April 3 -- Two men wanted in a fraud and snatching case were apprehended by police following an encounter near the Narsinghgarh Canal Bridge in the Delhupur area of Pratapgarh district late Wednesday night. During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects sustained a bullet injury to his left leg, while his associate was arrested on the spot, police said. According to officials, the incident occurred around 2.30am when a police team, led by station house officer Atul Yadav and sub-inspectors Virendra Kumar, Sandeep Tiwari, and Ramesh Tiwari, was conducting a routine check near the bridge. The team signalled two men on a motorcycle to stop, but the suspects allegedly opened fire in an attempt to flee. In retaliatory firing, one of the accused was shot in the left leg and subsequently apprehended. He was immediately taken to a medical college for treatment, while the second suspect was arrested at the scene, said additional superintendent of police (East) Shailendra Lal. Police identified the injured suspect as Vipin Kumar Nishad, a resident of Mawaiya under the Industrial Police Station area of Prayagraj. His associate, Raju Nishad, hails from Khiri Itwakala in Prayagraj. "The duo was wanted in connection with a March 9 incident, in which they allegedly duped Paras Nath Tiwari, a resident of Kharwai village in Delhupur, of Rs.20,000 on the pretext of seeking change for a Rs.500 note. They were identified through CCTV footage, and a search operation had been ongoing since then," officials said. ASP (East) Shailendra Lal confirmed that both men were involved in the fraud case.
