Meerut, Sept. 3 -- Two brothers were killed and their cousin was critically injured after a speeding truck rammed their motorcycle near a fruit and vegetable market in Khurja on Wednesday morning, police said. The accident took place around 11.45 am near the Naveen Fruit and Vegetable Market on the Old GT Road, about 200 metres from the Khurja tehsil office, under the Khurja Nagar police station limits. The victims were identified as Heeralal, 47, and his younger brother Dinesh, 45, sons of Veerpal Singh and residents of Mirpur Mansurpur village under the Arnia police station area. Their cousin, Jaipal, 54, son of Ramesh Singh, was seriously injured in the accident. According to police, the two brothers had been working as labourers in Ghaziabad for several years and had recently returned to their native village. On Wednesday morning, they were travelling to the Khurja tehsil with their cousin on a motorcycle to get some important documents prepared. As they approached the Naveen Fruit and Vegetable Market, a speeding truck allegedly lost control and collided with their motorcycle. The impact threw all three riders onto the roadside. Heeralal and Dinesh died at the spot. Local residents gathered at the scene and alerted the police. Officers soon reached the spot and rushed the seriously injured Jaipal to a private hospital for treatment. Police subsequently detained the truck and its driver and began questioning him.
