Dehradun, Aug. 31 -- Training of enumerators and supervisors has been completed ahead of the door-to-door population enumeration exercise in Uttarakhand's snow-bound areas, which will begin on September 1, officials said. The self-enumeration exercise in these areas began on August 17 and will continue until August 31. Only 290 people enrolled for self-enumeration as of Friday. Officials attributed the low response to the nature of the population in the remote areas, where many residents are shepherds who remain away from their homes for extended periods. The self-enumeration process also takes about an hour, officials said. The population enumeration exercise will cover around 52,000 people across 131 villages and three towns in four districts - Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh. According to the Directorate of Census Operations, Uttarakhand, 69 villages in Uttarkashi, 23 in Chamoli, four in Rudraprayag and 35 in Pithoragarh will be covered. Three towns included in exercise are Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath. The exercise will be conducted digitally through the Population Enumeration (PE) app. Eva Srivastava, director of Census Operations, Uttarakhand, said the training of enumerators and supervisors has been completed and the door-to-door exercise would begin on September 1. "We have completed the training of enumerators and supervisors. Door-to-door enumeration will begin on September 1," she said.
