Meerut, June 18 -- A six-year-old boy was abducted and thrown alive into a canal in Meerut on Tuesday. His body was recovered from the canal on Wednesday afternoon, nearly 25 hours after he was reported missing, and after police arrested the accused.
The man was identified as Arpit Parashar, whose interrogation has revealed disturbing details. The accused was found to be in a relationship with the child's mother.
The victim, Angadveer, had recently arrived in Bahsuma locality in Meerut to spend his holidays with family. His father, Gursevak Singh, works at a private firm in Saudi Arabia, while his mother had brought him from Patiala, where he was studying at a school and living with his aunt. When Angadveer failed to return home, at around 6 pm, the family informed the police, triggering a large-scale search operation.
CCTV footage reportedly showed a white Maruti WagonR entering the area around the time of the disappearance.
On Wednesday morning, police announced a breakthrough in the case and arrested the main accused, Arpit Parashar, 27, an employee of a private bank.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to having a romantic relationship with Angadveer's mother for the past five to six years. He also allegedly admitted to kidnapping the child and throwing him alive into a canal.
Following the confession, police, assisted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), launched an intensive search operation in the canal. After several hours of searching, Angadveer's body was recovered.
Superintendent of police Abhijeet Kumar said the accused admitted to taking the child with him and disposing of him in the canal. Acting on the information provided by the accused, search teams were deployed and eventually recovered the body.
Investigators found that the accused and the child's mother were previously acquainted and had remained in contact. Residents further claimed that he had been seen moving around the neighbourhood for two to three days before the crime....
