LUCKNOW, June 30 -- A man has been detained while efforts are on to identify and trace the remaining two after a 22-year-old woman accused the trio travelling in an app-booked e-rickshaw of molesting her in the Hazratganj area early on Monday, police said.
Based on her complaint, Hazratganj police station registered an FIR under Sections 74 (outraging woman's modesty) and 131 (using criminal force with provocation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the three accused and launched a probe into the incident.
As per the FIR, the woman claimed that her brother and she were returning home on a scooter after attending a birthday party around 12.45 am when the three men stopped them near DSO Square.
In an official statement, Lucknow Police said the incident began with an argument over overtaking near DSO Square, which later escalated into a physical altercation. Police said preliminary investigation suggests the three men travelling in the e-rickshaw were not known to one another.
Police said one accused, identified as Gaurav Shukla, has been detained.
"The victim has also alleged molestation. The allegation is being examined on the basis of available CCTV footage and other evidence," the police statement added.
Meanwhile, talking to the media, e-rickshaw driver, Kafeel Ahmad, alleged that the three passengers appeared intoxicated, abused passers-by during the journey and ignored his repeated requests to stop.
The police have not confirmed the driver's allegations....
