Meerut, June 17 -- A tragic road accident on the Delhi-Lucknow Highway in Moradabad claimed the lives of a five-month-pregnant woman, her three-year-old son, and her sister on Tuesday afternoon after a roadways bus hit their motorcycle in an attempt to overtake it. The woman's husband, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. The accident occurred at around 2.30pm near the Gangan river bridge in the Katghar police station area. According to police and family members, Md Junaid (35), a resident of Saraitarin in Sambhal district's Hayatnagar area, was travelling on a motorcycle with his wife Simran (30), their three-year-old son Daniyal, and his sister-in-law Mantasha. Witnesses and preliminary investigation suggest that a roadways bus approaching from behind attempted to overtake the motorcycle and collided with it. The impact threw all four occupants onto the road, leaving them critically injured. Police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident and transported the victims to the district hospital. Doctors declared Simran and Daniyal dead on arrival. Mantasha, who had suffered severe injuries, later succumbed during treatment. Junaid remains hospitalized in critical condition. Speaking at the district hospital, Junaid's mother said that her son had left home on Tuesday morning with his wife, child, and sister-in-law after telling family members they were going to Chandausi for an outing. "We do not know how they ended up on the Moradabad bypass route," she said. Mohammad Nabi, Junaid's maternal uncle, said the family had been travelling from Saraitarin in Sambhal towards Moradabad when the accident occurred. "The roadways bus hit the motorcycle from behind near the Gangan river bridge. Everyone except Junaid lost their lives," he said. The police have seized the bus and initiated an investigation into the incident. Superintendent of police Kumar Ranvijay Singh said the exact circumstances leading to the crash are being examined, and the role of the bus driver will also be investigated. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination, while police continue to gather evidence and record statements as part of the inquiry....
