Three held for theft at Hanuman Temple in Varanasi
VARANASI, June 8 -- Police have arrested three accused in connection with a theft at the Shri Hanuman Temple in Shrividya Math in Varanasi. Stolen items recovered from their possession include a brass lota (water vessel), silver ornaments, other religious articles, and Rs.1,500 in cash, police said.
According to police, a case was registered at Bhelupur police station following the theft of several items from the Shri Hanuman Temple at Shankaracharya Ghat, including a silver necklace adorning the deity, a brass lota, and an achmani (ritual vessel).
During the investigation, police identified Raju Khan (27), a Varanasi resident, as the alleged perpetrator of the theft and subsequently questioned him. During interrogation, he reportedly disclosed the names of two individuals who had purchased the stolen items. Acting on this information, a police team arrested Dhruv Kumar Verma (46), a resident of Ranipur in Mahmoorganj, and Santosh Verma (53) for allegedly buying the stolen property.
Assistant commissioner of police (Bhelupur) Gaurav Kumar confirmed the arrests. Police recovered a brass lota, the broken upper portion of a white-metal mace (gada), three crowns, a chain, a piece of white metal, and Rs.1,500 in cash from the accused, the officer said....
