Three held for bid to kidnap minor
GORAKHPUR, March 10 -- The district police on Sunday night arrested three youths for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 15-year-old mentally distressed girl near gate number 4 of Gorakhpur Railway Station. Police said the accused tried to take her in an auto-rickshaw with the intention of sexually assaulting her.
The incident took place in the Cantt police station area on Sunday evening. According to officials, the girl, who is mentally unstable, was collecting scrap near the railway station when the three youths allegedly forced her into an e-rickshaw and tried to take her to a secluded place.
The accused have been identified as Akash Mishra ,34, a resident of Kushinagar district, Ajay Jaiswal ,26, and Bajrangi ,24. The crime was prevented due to the alertness of a home guard personnel, Vijay Pratap Singh, who was on duty at the nearby police post. Singh noticed an e-rickshaw moving on the wrong side and saw the girl struggling inside the vehicle. He immediately stopped the vehicle and raised an alarm, after which the accused were caught.
SP city Abhinav Tyagi said two police teams formed soon after the incident. Police teams collected CCTV footage from the area, traced the e-rickshaw and first arrested the driver. Within four hours, the other two accused, who had fled the spot, were also arrested.
SP City Abhinav Tyagi praised the alertness of home guard Vijay Pratap Singh and said his timely action played a crucial role in preventing the crime. The district police chief has decided to honour him for his bravery and presence of mind.
According to officials, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 75 and 354, on the basis of a written complaint filed by police outpost in-charge Ashwani Pandey....
