Jaipur, May 2 -- At least three officials from Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) were arrested late on Thursday after the BJP MLA from Sri Ganganagar Jaideep Bihani filed an FIR against them for allegedly assaulting him during a meeting in the morning to discuss the disruptions in the city's water supply, police said. Station house officer of Jawahar Nagar police station, Devendra Rathoree, said, "The incident occurred around 11 am at the MLA Service Centre at SD Bihani College in Sri Ganganagar. Bihani was holding a public haring in the college where some complaints were received regarding disruption in the water supply following which he called those three officials to discuss the matter. He accused RUIDP and L&T of failing to complete a Rs.550-crore water project within the deadline and alleged large-scale corruption. But they allegedly suddenly launched an attack on him." According to officials, Bihani, in his FIR, also stated that he sustained injuries on his face and eyes. Assistant engineer Jaganlal Bairwa, project manager Shahnawaz, and planning manager Soham were arrested at night. "We held them for disrupting the peace in the event. But released them in the morning. We will question them, investigate the matter, and take further actions," said the SHO. However, the accused Bairwa, on Friday, denied all the allegations while speaking to the media. "We have not assaulted Bihani. Rather, he beat us up and we sustained injuries. He made a false FIR against us to save his skin." Meanwhile, Rajasthan State Engineers' Association also issued a formal statement condemning the incident. "The torn shirts and the spilled blood of our colleagues stand as irrefutable evidence of the incident's brutality - evidence which the MLA and his associates even conspired to conceal by attempting to force new shirts onto the victims."
