VARANASI, April 3 -- Three people were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of a property dealer that occurred in the Ghorawal area in Sonbhadra district on March 22, police said. The accused have been identified as Chandrashekhar Maurya of Mirzapur, Sahab Lal Maurya of Sonbhadra and his wife Leelavati, said additional superintendent of police Anil Kumar.
He said that Ghasi Maurya, a resident of Lokua under Dhanapur police station in Chandauli district filed a complaint on March 27 alleging that his brother, Kunwar Maurya, had been murdered by unidentified assailants. Based on the complaint, a case was registered against unknown persons under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 238 of the BNS, police said.
The officer said that Kunwar was murdered on the night of March 22, and his body was dumped in the Sirsi dam area under Santnagar police station in Mirzapur. During the investigation, the involvement of three individuals in the murder came to light, the officer added.
On April 1, Ghorawal station house officer (SHO) inspector Brijesh Singh, along with a police team, arrested the three accused-two men and a woman-from the Khutaha Bypass T-point, said the officer. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder of Kunwar Maurya.
Police said that during interrogation, accused Leelavati revealed that the deceased, Kunwar Maurya, was her relative and frequently visited her residence. He was involved in buying and selling land, lived in a rented room in Lalganj in Mirzapur district, and often visited her home in village Pedh Naugadhwa.
About a year ago, Kunwar borrowed Rs.7lakh from her sister's son Chandrashekhar Maurya alias Makhanchoo, a resident of village Padariya under Santnagar police station in Mirzapur district, on the pretext of sharing profits from a land deal. Chandrashekhar lent money to him after borrowing it at interest himself. However, instead of generating any returns, Kunwar repeatedly resorted to evasive tactics whenever Chandrashekhar asked for repayment of the principal amount.
Meanwhile, arranged Sahab's daughter's marriage to a man from Tikapur, Chandauli, after which six biswas of land was transferred to her. Later, Kunwar got the marriage dissolved and married her to his son Ravi, who worked in Chennai. Instead of taking her home, he kept her in a rented house in Sakaldiha, sold the land in her name for about Rs.15 lakh, and deposited the money into his own bank account.
The ASP said that during interrogation, the accused revealed that Suman was not given any share of the money from the land sale and that he later began targeting her as well, harbouring lewd intentions.
Enraged by these actions, the accused hatched a conspiracy to commit murder....
