LUCKNOW, March 8 -- Thieves allegedly broke into a locked house here in Faridi Nagar and walked away with ancestral gold and silver jewellery, silver utensils, coins and around Rs 1 lakh in cash, police said on Saturday. Anindya Vikram Singh, assistant commissioner of police, Ghazipur, confirmed that a case has been registered against unidentified persons and further legal action initiated. Police teams are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to trace the accused and recover the stolen property. The theft at a residence in Bal Vihar Colony, under the Indira Nagar police station limits, came to light on March 6 when the owner, Shipra Singh, was away attending a family function. Singh had left the house on February 26, handing over the keys to her friend Shubhashree Raman, who was asked to visit periodically to feed fish and water plants. The burglars allegedly also took away the digital video recorder (DVR) of the CCTV camera system, in what police suspect was an attempt to destroy evidence.
