Theft accused, carry a Rs.50k reward, arrested
AGRA, June 10 -- A man carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 was arrested by Special Task Force (STF) on Monday night from the Govind Nagar police station area in Mathura.
The accused, a resident of Meerut, had allegedly been involved in multiple house theft cases in Ghaziabad and Mathura over the past 15 years, police said on Tuesday. In a press statement issued by STF's Lucknow unit on Tuesday, officials stated that the accused, Mohd Shahid aka Kallu Rathore, was wanted in connection with a 2025 case registered at Govind Nagar police station in Mathura under section 305A (theft) and 317(2) (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Acting on a tip-off about the accused's movement in Mathura on Monday night, STF sub-inspector Rajneesh Chaudhary and his team launched an operation and arrested him near Jai Singhpura Crossing in the city, police said.
According to the press statement, the accused told police that he had been living in Brahmpuri locality of Merrut for the past 15 years and was involved in thefts. He allegedly travelled with other members of his gang in hired taxis to carry out burglaries in Ghaziabad and Mathura districts. The accused had allegedly last carried out a theft in Mathura. While his associates were arrested in connection with the case, Mohd Shahid had remained absconding. He was eventually apprehended by the STF team on Monday night....
