Tent traders protest,raise concern over LPG price hike, GST burden
LUCKNOW, May 16 -- Members of the UP Tent Caterers and Decorators Welfare Association staged a protest outside the Lucknow Collectorate on Friday, raising concerns over sharp rise in commercial LPG prices and continued imposition of 18% GST on the sector.
They submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the district magistrate, demanding immediate relief from soaring operational costs.
Association leaders alleged that the unprecedented increase in commercial gas cylinder prices has affected both traders and consumers. According to the organization, cylinder rates first increased by nearly Rs.350 and then saw another jump of around Rs.973 within just 10 days. They claimed that in 2026 alone, commercial LPG prices have risen by more than Rs.1,500, putting financial pressure on businesses linked to weddings, catering and event management.
State president Vijay Kumar accused the administration of ignoring repeated demands for relief. He said protests are being staged out at district headquarters across the state to draw the Centre's attention to the issue.
Traders also raised concerns over traffic restrictions affecting their operations. The association demanded exemption for tent business vehicles from "No Entry" zones, arguing that such vehicles are essential for transporting equipment during weddings and public events....
