Tempo traveller carrying Maha pilgrims overturns on highway
PRAYAGRAJ, May 19 -- A tempo traveller carrying pilgrims from Maharashtra overturned on the Prayagraj-Ayodhya Highway near Bhawanipur village in the Delhupur area on Monday afternoon after the driver allegedly fell asleep while driving, injuring several passengers.
The vehicle, carrying 17 pilgrims from Dhanodha Mahagaon in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, was on its way to Ayodhya after the group took a holy dip at the Sangam earlier in the day. At around noon, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which hit the divider and overturned, causing panic among the passengers.
Station house officer of Delhupur police station Radheshyam reached the scene and supervised rescue operations. The injured were pulled out and taken to the medical college in police vehicles and ambulances.
Seven people, including driver Chakradhar (40), Alka Giri (65), Shraddha Pandey (45), Sarita (52), Kamal (65), Pushpa (65) and Uday Kumar Kulkarni (67), were admitted for treatment. Five others, including Vinayak (71), Yash (16), Sherit (16) and Avi (9), were discharged after primary treatment.
Police said preliminary accounts suggest the accident occurred due to driver fatigue. The driver also suffered serious injuries....
