Haridwar, Oct. 5 -- A 34-year-old man wanted in connection with a temple theft case was arrested after an exchange of fire with a police team in Haridwar's Khanpur on Sunday, officials said. According to Haridwar SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar, a theft was reported at the Jata Shankar Mahadev temple on the night of September 30, following which a case was registered at Khanpur police station on a complaint by Shankar Das. "Accused Aarif is a notorious criminal with six cases, including theft and violations of the Arms Act, registered against him at various police stations in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. He was travelling in an auto tempo on Sunday morning when a police team stopped him. He tried to run over a policeman with the tempo and later opened fire at the police team," SSP Bhullar said. htc...
