KANPUR, July 20 -- A 16-year-old girl, whose parents alleged she had been abducted and held captive by five to six young men, died by suicide on Sunday, just hours after being reunited with her family. The incident occurred in the Garotha area of Jhansi district, shortly after local police recovered the teenager and handed her back to her relatives. The victim, a Class 11 student who had been residing in Palera, Madhya Pradesh, for her studies, had been reported missing since July 13. Her family had lodged a formal missing person complaint with the Palera police at that time. On Saturday, authorities traced the girl to a room in the Mauranipur area of Jhansi. Following standard questioning and the completion of legal formalities, she was sent to her family on Sunday. According to family members, the girl broke down upon returning home, alleging that she had been forcibly abducted, confined in an underground room and denied food. She further claimed that her captors had intended to take her to Delhi. Distraught and expressing fear of social stigma, the girl reportedly consumed pesticide kept in the house on Sunday. She was rushed by her family to the community health centre in Mauranipur, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Garotha police station in-charge Surjeet Singh confirmed that a medical memo has been received and post-mortem proceedings are currently underway. No formal written complaint regarding the abduction allegations has been submitted by the family to the Jhansi police thus far. The original missing person case remains active with the Palera police in Madhya Pradesh. Authorities have noted that the allegations of abduction and captivity, while made by the family, have not yet been officially confirmed through investigation. Dr RP Singh, who performed the initial examination, stated that the case appears to be one of poisoning. "The post-mortem will clarify the exact cause," he said....
