Teen dies in suspected stunt racing crash near JM Park
Lucknow, March 16 -- A 17-year-old student died after his motorcycle crashed into a scooter during suspected stunt riding and racing near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar Extension area on Sunday morning. A video of the stunt was also circulated on social media, however, HT couldn't independently verify the video.
Police said, the deceased, Naitik Kumar, a resident of Vishesh Khand in Gomti Nagar Extension, was an intermediate student and the son of Ram Iqbal, an engineer in the electricity department.
According to family members, Naitik had gone out on his Bullet motorcycle towards Janeshwar Mishra Park for a ride in the morning. When he reached near Gate No. 5 of the park, his bike allegedly went out of control and rammed into a scooter moving ahead of him.
Police said the impact caused the motorcycle to collide with another vehicle before Naitik lost balance and fell near the divider along with the bike. He suffered severe head injuries in the crash.
Naitik and two others injured in the incident, identified as Aditya Srivastava and Krishna Singh, were taken to a hospital where doctors declared Naitik dead on arrival. The other injured persons were discharged after treatment.
Police said preliminary information suggests that several youths were riding at high speed and performing stunts in the area at the time of the incident.
Family members declined a post-mortem examination and took the body to their ancestral home in Kothi area of Barabanki for the last rites.
Inspector Sudhir Awasthi of Gomti Nagar Extension police station said CCTV footage is being examined to determine the exact sequence of events.
Residents said stunt riding and racing are frequently reported on the roads around Janeshwar Mishra Park, raising concerns about safety for pedestrians and morning walkers....
