Technology a catalyst for social transformation: Harivansh
Agra, June 19 -- Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh underscored the transformative power of technology in social reform while delivering the Sir Syed Memorial Lecture at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Wednesday.
Speaking at the university's Administrative Block Conference Hall on the topic, "The Role of Technology in Social Transformation (Indian Perspective)," Harivansh noted that technology has historically acted as a driver for human advancement. He asserted that India is currently leveraging technology effectively to accelerate economic transformation and empower the underprivileged.
"Technology is being used not just for economic growth, but to bring marginalised sections of society into the mainstream," Harivansh said.
He paid tribute to AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, describing him as an architect of modern India who persevered despite opposition to champion scientific temper and modern education. "Sir Syed envisioned social reform and worked tirelessly to realize that dream. That is why he is counted among the builders of modern India," he added.
Addressing the country's unique challenges, Harivansh acknowledged India's vast, diverse population and infrastructural constraints. However, he emphasised that the government continues to move steadily toward empowering citizens and transforming the nation into a developed economy. He highlighted specific initiatives, including the Digital India Mission, DBT, agri-drone technology, etc as proof that technological inclusion is reaching the grassroots level....
