Tech glitches force postponement; fresh dates to be announced soon
PRAYAGRAJ, May 27 -- The deputy director (exams) of SSC's Central Region office issued a notice stating that all three shifts of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Constable (General Duty) recruitment examination scheduled at the Sunita Singh Sita Singh Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Andawa on May 26 and 27 had been postponed with immediate effect due to technical reasons.
The commission said fresh dates for the affected candidates would be announced later and revised admit cards uploaded on the official website. SSC also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to candidates.
The decision followed chaos for the second consecutive day at the I-Tech Zone examination centre located at the Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Andawa on Tuesday, after candidates alleged major technical glitches and disruption of the online test.
Agitated candidates vandalised parts of the examination centre and blocked the GT Road for nearly an hour after computer screens reportedly went blank around 24 minutes before the scheduled end of the examination. The protest led to severe traffic disruption in the area for several hours before police restored normalcy.
Around 500 candidates were scheduled to appear in each of the three shifts at the centre on Tuesday. According to candidates, nearly 495 aspirants appeared in the first shift when the server allegedly started functioning extremely slowly soon after the examination began. Despite repeated complaints, the issue remained unresolved, candidates claimed. They further alleged that the computer screens suddenly went blank before the examination could conclude, triggering outrage among aspirants.
As tensions escalated, candidates allegedly damaged property inside the examination centre. Employees of the Bengaluru-based agency conducting the examination reportedly left the premises amid the chaos. Candidates arriving for the second shift also joined the protest after learning about the disruption in the first shift. Hundreds of candidates later staged a blockade on the GT Road and raised slogans against the examination authorities, resulting in heavy traffic congestion in the area.
Owing to repeated technical glitches and alleged mismanagement over the past two days, nearly 2,500 candidates reportedly returned without appearing for the examination.
Many aspirants who had travelled long distances by train and bus expressed anger and disappointment after waiting for hours in scorching heat only to see the examination cancelled.HTC...
