Tech-driven security plan for Moharram
LUCKNOW, June 18 -- Police have drawn up a technology-driven security plan for Moharram, which began on Wednesday, combining drone surveillance, extensive CCTV monitoring and round-the-clock social media tracking with one of the biggest security deployments of the year, officials said.
"With thousands expected to attend Majlis gatherings and Tazia processions across the city, the Lucknow police commissionerate has divided the western zone into five zones and 18 sectors to create a multi-layered security grid around sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas," joint commissioner of police (law and order) Babloo Kumar said.
Traditional Moharram centres, including Chowk, Thakurganj, Saadatganj, Bazaarkhala, Wazirganj and Aminabad, will remain under special watch. Surveillance teams will monitor procession routes, Imambaras and Karbala sites through CCTV cameras and drones, while social media cells will track provocative or misleading content that could disrupt communal harmony. The security arrangement includes four deputy commissioners of police, 19 additional DCPs, 52 ACPs, 91 inspectors, 1,104 sub-inspectors and 2,477 constables. Fourteen companies and two platoons of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) will provide additional support, Kumar said
Police have verified traditional procession routes and planned barricading, pickets and mobile patrols along key stretches. Women personnel, Anti-Romeo squads, Pink Patrol teams and UP-112 units will remain on active duty. Commissioner of police Amrendra Sengar said all arrangements had been made to ensure peaceful observances amid communal harmony....
