LAKHIMPUR KHERI, Sept. 10 -- Traffic on the busy Dudhwa-Gaurifanta road was disrupted on Wednesday after the swollen Suheli river submerged a causeway near Banshinagar in Pallia tehsil, about a kilometre from the Dudhwa gate. The river, which originates in Nepal and flows along the Kheri border, is among the rivers, including Mohana and Karnali, that influence the ecology of Dudhwa National Park. A sudden surge sent a strong current across the road, making crossing risky for pedestrians and bikers. Pallia SDM Pushpak, who uses a single name, said pedestrian and motorcycle movement had been suspended for safety, while heavy vehicles were allowed through cautiously. He said the situation worsened because of heavy water hyacinth (jal-kumbhi) growth, and arrangements were being made for its removal. The causeway had also developed cracks, prompting the Public Works Department (PWD) to send engineers for repairs. Meanwhile, flooding in Gola, Pallia, Lakhimpur, Nighasan and Dhaurahra tehsils improved as the Sharda, Ghaghra and Mohana rivers receded....
