Swarn Jayanti Express halted over suspected brake-binding issue
KANPUR, Oct. 10 -- A suspected brake-binding issue on the Jharkhand Swarn Jayanti Express triggered a safety alert at Etawah junction on Friday, prompting railway officials to cut power to the overhead electric equipment (OHE) and halt the train for a technical inspection.
The incident also disrupted the movement of three other trains, including the Vande Bharat Express.
The incident occurred at around 9:10 am when the Hatia-Anand Vihar Superfast Express (12873) was passing through Etawah. Deputy station superintendent Manoj Kumar, who was on duty, noticed smoke coming from a coach and detected a smell suggesting possible brake binding. He immediately alerted the control staff, following which the overhead power supply was switched off.
The train stopped between the starter signal at Ramnagar crossing and Mainpuri crossing. Railway officials and technical staff rushed to the spot to investigate the cause of the smoke.
The inspection focused on the B1 coach, where the bogie's trolley was found to be overheating. Station superintendent PM Meena and senior section engineer (carriage and wagon) Vipin Kumar, along with the technical team, examined the coach before giving the train clearance to resume its journey.
The express eventually left for Delhi at 9:41 am, after remaining halted for around half an hour.
The disruption affected three other services on the busy section.
The Vande Bharat express, Amrit Bharat express and Gomti express (12419) were held between Etawah and Ekdil while railway operations were affected by the stoppage.
North Central Railway's spokesperson Amit Kumar Singh, based in Prayagraj, confirmed that the train had been stopped following a brake-binding problem and allowed to proceed after the TXR team's inspection.
In a further precaution, the railway's train examination department deployed a team to accompany the express all the way to Delhi to monitor the situation....
