Swami Maurya meets Rahul in Delhi, says wishes to see him as PM
LUCKNOW, Oct. 4 -- Apni Janata Party president Swami Prasad Maurya on Saturday met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and said he was with the INDIA Alliance and wished to see the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha as the next PM of the country.
"Positive talks took place with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly election with the INDIA Alliance," Maurya wrote on X after his meeting with Rahul Gandhi.
Maurya later said that the two share a same ideology and that Rahul Gandhi is raising issues concerning SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities, claiming that his party is pursuing similar issues in Uttar Pradesh.
A former Uttar Pradesh minister, Maurya began his political journey in 1991. Five years later, he joined the BSP. Thrice he served as the leader of the opposition in the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly.
He joined the BJP and was labour minister in the Yogi 1.0 government. Just before the 2022 assembly election, Maurya joined the Samajwadi Party. He left the SP in February 2024 to launch his own party....
