LUCKNOW, Sept. 9 -- "Jo ho gaya, so ho gaya. Ab kuch nahi bolna." That was the response of suspended head constable Himanshu Kumar when police questioned him about the killing of his wife, Rashmi, a reaction that was strikingly devoid of remorse. Himanshu was sent to jail on Tuesday after being arrested for killing Rashmi at their rented house in Paper Mill Colony under Mahanagar police station. According to the police, he refused to talk about the crime and maintained that there was nothing more to say about what had happened. The head constable, posted at the right to information cell office in Daliganj, allegedly attacked Rashmi on the head with a pestle in the early hours of Sunday. Police said he later admitted during questioning that a domestic dispute had led him to kill his wife in a fit of rage. However, investigators said his subsequent response was markedly matter-of-fact. Rather than explaining the circumstances further, he kept repeating that what had happened was over and that he did not want to say anything more. Police are also examining his history of alcohol and substance abuse, which they suspect may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the crime.
