Jaipur, July 1 -- A 35-year-old farmer strangled his 32-year-old wife and two children, aged 13 and 10, to death before dying by suicide in Phalodi district, police said on Tuesday. Dechu SHO Vikram Singh said that the incident happened on Monday night and the bodies were found on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that the wife had reportedly been suffering from mental health issues for the past few days. "Family members had allegedly taken her to a local faith healer, and the farmer is believed to have suspected that she was possessed by an evil spirit. Police suspect these beliefs may have played a role in the incident, though the exact motive is yet to be established," said Singh. The bodies have been shifted to the local hospital mortuary, where a medical board will conduct the post-mortem examinations, he added. While the preliminary evidence points towards a murder-suicide, investigators are also examining the possibility of a collective suicide until the post-mortem reports and forensic findings establish the exact circumstances of the deaths. "Further investigation is underway," Singh added....
