VARANASI, May 24 -- A man leading a group of villagers, upset over power cuts, locked a substation in the Baburi area of Chandauli district. He claimed his wife's taunts about his inability to ensure power supply despite his purported political status drove him to take this action. Later, the lock was removed and locals called off the stir after the electricity department assured the villagers of ensuring supply. The incident took place on May 21. In a video that has since gone viral, the man-identifying himself as Mahendra Seth, vice- president of traders' association and claiming to be former president of a BJP mandal unit in Chandauli - is seen saying on the phone: "What kind of BJP leader are you, if you can't even ensure we get electricity?" Mandal is a unit of a few mohallas (localities). He further said that, driven by frustration, he had gone to the local power substation and locked it up. The Baburi region was plagued by power cuts for several hours on May 21. A crowd of approximately 120 villagers and locals gathered at the Baburi power substation, the premises were locked and a sit-in protest began.
