Students stage protest against shortage of chemistry, physics, maths teachers
VARANASI, Aug. 19 -- Hundreds of students protested on Tuesday against the shortage of teachers at Smith Inter College in Azamgarh district.
The protesting students demanded the immediate appointment of physics, chemistry and mathematics teachers. Following the protest, the principal assured them of fulfilling their demand within 48 hours, after which the protest ended.
The students also warned that if the teacher shortage isn't addressed, they will be forced to protest again.
On Tuesday, the students gathered outside the college at 7 am and chanted slogans for about two hours. They alleged that there have been no physics and chemistry teachers since June. The school has also been functioning without a mathematics lecturer for nearly nine years.
The school has over 1,100 students, and enrollment is ongoing.
Superintendent of police (rural), Chirag Jain, said that after the information was received about the protest by students at an inter college, matter was referred to the department concerned and a team of police was sent for security....
