Meerut, March 9 -- A 35-year-old sewage treatment plant operator was found hanging inside a room at the Phase-2 Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the Pallavpuram police station area in Meerut district on Saturday, while his 30-year-old wife was found dead on a bed in the same room, triggering suspicion of a murder-suicide. Police believe the man may have strangled his wife before committing suicide. Police and a forensic team reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and carried out a detailed inspection. According to preliminary findings, the couple had been facing marital disputes for the past few days. CCTV footage from the plant premises reportedly shows that no one other than the couple entered the room. The man worked as an operator under a contractor at the STP plant located in Pallavpuram Phase-2. The couple also had a son. The family had recently gone to their ancestral village to celebrate the Holi festival. On Saturday, the couple returned to Pallavpuram but instead of going directly to their rented house, the man went with his wife to a room inside the STP plant, which he occasionally used due to his work. Meanwhile, their son went to play with other children at another STP plant nearby. The incident came to light later in the evening when another operator, Ramkaran arrived at the plant. When he entered the room, he found the man hanging from a noose and his wife lying motionless on the bed. Ramkaran immediately informed one Shivshankar, who then alerted the police. Investigators suspect that the couple may have had an argument while returning from their village, which could have escalated into violence. During the inspection, police noticed marks on the woman's neck, raising suspicion that she may have been strangled. The absence of a suicide note has further complicated the case. Police said they are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and checking the couple's mobile phones to piece together the sequence of events. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the exact cause of death will be determined once the report is received. Circle officer (Daurala) Prakash Chandra Agarwal said preliminary investigation points to a dispute between the couple. "There is a possibility that the husband killed his wife and then died by suicide. However, the matter is still under investigation and the exact cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem report," he said....
