STF busts fake medicine racket
Dehradun, July 20 -- Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF), in a joint operation with the state drug administration, busted a major fake medicines manufacturing syndicate in Udham Singh Nagar's Bajpur and arrested one person.
The accused, identified as Dhirendra, a resident of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested during the raid at Kovil Biotech, located in plots F-13 and F-14 of the Bajpur industrial area.
According to officials, their raid also exposed an alleged racket of supplying illegal liquor from another state after rebranding it with fake excise labels. According to the STF, the accused was allegedly manufacturing counterfeit allopathic medicines in the names of leading pharmaceutical companies, including STADMED, Macleods, Intas and Sun Pharma, without holding a valid drug manufacturing licence. Investigators said he was operating under the cover of a food licence.
STF SSP Ajai Singh said, "During the raid, the team seized around 100,000 tablets, 15,000 syrup bottles, packaging machines, packing material and other equipment used in the manufacture of spurious medicines." htc...
