Dehradun, April 21 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Kaladhungi, Bansidhar Bhagat, on Monday said that his earlier comments on the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission projects in the state were allegedly misconstrued, even as the state Congress said the comments reflected the ground reality. In a video circulating on social media, Bhagat flagged a lack of progress in the scheme's implementation. "Chanting Modi-Modi alone will not be enough to 2027 assembly elections," he purportedly said in the clip, reportedly recorded in Haldwani at a district-level review meeting. "The way people interpreted my statement is regrettable. I only said that despite funds being available, the work under the Jal Jeevan Mission is not being conducted properly. If we do not raise such issues in such meetings, then where should we raise them?" he told reporters. "I was asking officials to work more efficiently. It is not right to assume that the government will return to power without delivering on the ground... My statement has been twisted; I only issued strict instructions to officials to ensure proper implementation," said the MLA. "India's rise under Prime Minister Modi is historic. We have become the fourth-largest economy, unlike earlier when the country was under debt. This is the result of his leadership". Meanwhile, state Congress chief Karan Mahara said: "When senior leaders within BJP admit that merely chanting 'Modi-Modi' will not suffice and that work on ground is lacking, it exposes reality behind the government's claims of development...". htc...
