SRNH to add 70 beds across three key depts
PRAYAGRAJ, June 29 -- Patients at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH) are set to get improved treatment facilities as wards in the obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry and cardiology departments are being expanded, adding a total of 70 beds. The construction work, which resumed following directions from the Allahabad high court, is expected to be completed by August.
Dr Man Singh, head of the pharmacy department and in-charge of construction works at Motilal Nehru Medical College, said the expansion project is being carried out at a cost of Rs 6.54 crore. Under the plan, 20 beds each will be added to the psychiatry and cardiology departments, while the obstetrics and gynecology department will get 30 additional beds.
According to Dr Singh, Rs 1.66 crore has been allocated for the cardiology ward, Rs 2.48 crore for the obstetrics and gynecology ward, and Rs 2.40 crore for the psychiatry ward. The new wards are being constructed on the second floor of the existing building, and the executing agency is expected to hand over the facilities by August.
The expansion of the cardiology department had been proposed nearly seven years ago but remained stalled due to various reasons. The project was revived after directions from the high court. Hospital authorities said the additional beds will help address the shortage currently being faced in the cardiology department, where patients often have to wait for admission. The psychiatry department, whose patients are currently accommodated in the night shelter building, is also expected to benefit significantly from the new facilities....
