Sports Hostel win state hockey tourney
LUCKNOW, March 19 -- Favourites Sports Hostel defeated Sports College by 4-2 in a shootout to win the State-Level Sub-Junior Men's Hockey Tournament, at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday.
The two teams were locked in a 3-3 draw at the end of the regulation time. However, an impressive performance by goalkeeper Shivam Kushwaha helped Sports Hostel wrest the title in a pulsating final.
Sports College failed to convert two of their attempts whereas Krishna Vedvanshi and Dheeraj Pal were successful in scoring. But for Sports Hostel, Akib Raini, Raghavendra Singh Chauhan, Prahlad Rajbhar, and Rahul Yadav scored at ease.
Earlier in the ninth minute, Sports Hostel's Shahrukh Ali executed a powerful shot to score a field goal, giving his team the lead. However, Sports College didn't lose control and shot one back to level the score (1-all). Shahrukh struck two more goals for the side, but Sports College managed to draw the parity then.
In the A Division League on Wednesday, Triumph Cricket Academy and Akhil Infra Cricket Club registered victories and secured full points. Triumph defeated REPL Crusaders Club by 14 runs, while Akhil Infra Cricket Club defeated Koo Sports Cricket Club by 107 runs.
At the Sports Galaxy B Ground, batting first, Akhil Infra posted 331/5 in 40 overs. Opener Abhishek Roshan scored an unbeaten 171 in 121 deliveries with the help of 15 boundaries and nine sixes. In reply, Koo Sports could score 224 runs in 32.1 overs. Kushagra Singh was the top scorer with 55. Pawan Singh claimed four wickets.
In the second match, held at the Parth Cricket Ground, Triumph Academy scored 239 in 38 overs. Samanvay Dixit struck 144 runs. Kshitij Mishra claimed four wickets. Chasing the target, REPL Crusaders could make 225 runs in 38.3 overs....
