Speedy, impartial justice for all a top priority: CM
Dehradun, June 8 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday said that speedy, impartial justice for every section of society remains state government's top priority, adding that making the justice delivery system more inclusive, accessible, transparent and effective was central to good governance.
Addressing the annual conference of the Uttarakhand Judges' Association, "Judicium 2.0: Inclusion, Access, and Strengthening" in Dehradun, the chief minister said the conference theme aligns with the vision of a developed India and focuses on key aspects such as inclusivity, easy access to justice and strengthening judicial institutions. "Every section of society should receive equal opportunity and respect within the justice system. Geographical or economic circumstances should not become barriers to justice," said Dhami, stressing the need to make justice simple and accessible, particularly in remote and mountainous regions of Uttarakhand.
He said, "Making the justice system more inclusive, accessible, transparent, and effective is the core essence of good governance. And ensuring access to speedy and impartial justice for every section of society is among the state government's top priorities"
Describing the judiciary as a vital pillar of democracy, Dhami said it not only "safeguards citizens' rights but also strengthens the sense of trust and security in society". He added that public faith in the judiciary is essential for the success of the rule of law and praised judges for discharging this responsibility effectively. The chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several landmark steps have been taken to modernise and digitise the country's judicial system. He cited the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, along with initiatives such as e-Courts, the National Judicial Data Grid, digital case management and video conferencing, as measures that have enhanced the efficiency and transparency of judicial processes.
Highlighting the state government's efforts, Dhami said, "Uttarakhand has been continuously strengthening judicial infrastructure through digital courts, e-filing and virtual hearing systems". He added that long-pending disputes are also being resolved through revenue Lok Adalats, enabling faster and amicable settlements.
The chief minister said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and is taking steps to strengthen law and order. Referring to anti-copying legislation, laws against illegal religious conversion, anti-riot measures and action against corruption and illegal encroachments, he said these initiatives have reinforced the rule of law in the state.
He also described the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand as a historic step aimed at women's empowerment and ensuring equal justice for all citizens, noting that the initiative has attracted attention across the country. Expressing confidence in the outcome of the conference, Dhami said "Judicium 2.0" would contribute significantly to making the judicial system more inclusive, accessible and effective, while helping realise the vision of a developed and progressive Uttarakhand.
The chief minister announced a grant of Rs.5 crore for the welfare fund of the Uttarakhand Judges' Association and also released the association's souvenir.
