Specially-abled youth killed by train while escaping neighbours' assault
PRAYAGRAJ, May 24 -- A differently-abled youth was killed after being hit by a train while allegedly trying to escape from neighbours who were assaulting him over the accidental breaking of some cow-dung cakes, in Prayagraj on Saturday.
Upon receiving the information, the Manda police arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and sent it to SRN Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have detained several people for questioning while investigating the murder allegations made in a written complaint submitted by the deceased youth's father.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning near the Dighiya Overbridge under Dighiya police outpost limits within the Manda station area. The deceased's father Rajaram Sonkar, submitted a written complaint to the police stating that his son, Rajesh Sonkar (18), was physically challenged and had a disability in one leg.
On Saturday morning, he was leaving his home when he suddenly stumbled and fell onto a pile of cow-dung cakes belonging to a neighbour, causing some of them to break. Enraged by this, four women from the neighborhood rushed over, grabbed Rajesh by his hair, and began beating him.
Rajesh repeatedly pleaded with them, explaining that he had fallen onto the cow-dung cakes only because of his disability. Despite that, the women continued to beat him relentlessly. Seizing an opportunity to escape, the youth fled toward the Delhi-Howrah railway line. However, a train suddenly approached, and he was struck by it, resulting in his death. Upon receiving information, SHO Anil Kumar Verma arrived at the scene and sent the body for postmortem. Verma stated that an investigation into the matter is currently underway based on the written complaint received.
PRAYAGRAJ A 22-year-old B.Ed student drowned in the Sai River near Devghat in Pratapgarh on Saturday evening while bathing with friends, police said. The deceased, Anupam Shukla of Rampur Gauri, allegedly ventured into deep water near a bridge pillar at Balukeshwar Nath Dham and began to drown. A local resident, Rahul Gaur, pulled him out after hearing cries for help. The UP-112 team rushed him to the medical college, where doctors declared him dead....
