LUCKNOW, April 4 -- In what is seen as a bid to further strengthen its PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) push ahead of the 2027 UP assembly polls, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced that it will celebrate Dr BR Ambedkar's birth anniversary at the sector and village levels across the state. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Friday following a meeting of the national and state office-bearers of the party's youth wings, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said: "During the meeting, the party resolved to celebrate the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar on April 14 at both the sector and village levels." "We, the Socialists, aspire to provide a new direction to society by adhering to the Constitution gifted by Babasaheb, the path laid out by Lohia Ji, and the socialist ideology espoused by 'Netaji' (Mulayam Singh Yadav)," he added. "The Samajwadi Party upholds democratic principles, whereas the BJP operates through an autocratic system," Yadav claimed.
