PRAYAGRAJ, March 15 -- Naresh Uttam Patel, Fatehpur MP and former Samajwadi Party (SP) state president, accused the BJP government on Saturday of being anti-PDA, referring to backward classes, Dalits and minorities. He said the ruling party failed to address the needs of nearly 95% of the country's population despite holding power at both the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh. Patel said the government placed its own people in all top positions, sidelining backward and marginalised communities. He added that the continuous rise in LPG, petrol and diesel prices has triggered a ripple effect on essential commodities, with the ongoing conflict in West Asia further worsening the fuel crisis for common citizens. On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's suggestion to confer the Bharat Ratna on BSP founder Kanshi Ram, Patel said the SP supports the honour. "Kanshi Ram certainly deserves it. We support awarding the country's highest civilian honour to any prominent figure who worked for the upliftment of Dalits and backward classes," he said. Patel alleged the BJP is reluctant to announce the Panchayat election schedule due to internal differences among its ministers and a declining public image. "Panchayat elections form the foundation of democracy, yet the ruling party appears hesitant to face the people," he said. When asked who would become chief minister if SP wins in 2027 and how many deputy chief ministers the party would appoint, Patel said the SP does not follow the BJP's model and functions on the principles of leaders such as Ram Manohar Lohia and Janeshwar Mishra. "We want Akhilesh Yadav to become the chief minister of the state and, after the Lok Sabha elections, the prime minister of the country," he said....
