Sonbhadra SIT nabs man for running fake ITC racket
VARANASI, April 4 -- A special investigation team (SIT) of Sonbhadra Police arrested a person for tax evasion and running a fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) racket from the area in front of the Vaishno Devi Mata Temple, Dala under Chopan police station area of Sonbhadra on April 2, police said on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Asif Ali, 26, a resident of Dala Bazar Main Market, Patrahi, and was wanted in connection with a case registered at Police Station Robertsganj under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 338, and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, said additional superintendent of police, Sonbhadra, Anil Kumar. Constituted by superintendent of police, Sonbhadra, Abhishek Verma, the SIT carried out an operation against tax evasion, fake firms, and the misuse of Input Tax Credit (ITC). Investigation revealed that the accused Asif Ali operating through various firms across different financial years, had claimed bogus ITC (Input Tax Credit) amounting to approximately Rs.70,00,000 in his filed returns, despite failing to produce any evidence of actual transactions. Through his firm M/S DK, he claimed fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) based on forged documents without any actual purchase or sale of goods; furthermore, public funds were embezzled by evading the payment of government taxes (GST).
The firm failed to produce any valid documents-such as tax invoices, consignment notes (Bilti), or E-way bills-thereby making it evident that the entire transaction was fraudulent. Based on intensive investigation, technical analysis, and data monitoring conducted by the SIT team, the accused was arrested, said Kumar. The SIT team led by Rajesh Prasad recovered two Mobile phones, a File, a car and Rs.26,450 in cash from the accused....
