PRAYAGRAJ:, May 4 -- Rooftop solar installations are increasing steadily across the Prayagraj division, driven by government schemes, subsidies and easier financing options. According to data from Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency, Prayagraj district recorded 16,748 rooftop solar installations by April 2026, with a total generation capacity of around 40,562 kW. Across the division, which includes Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi and Fatehpur, installations reached 24,748 during the same period. Officials said district-wise figures include 3,412 installations in Fatehpur, 3,556 in Pratapgarh and 1,510 in Kaushambi. The rise in adoption comes alongside policy support in the Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27, which earmarked Rs.2,104 crore for green energy initiatives and identified Prayagraj as a potential solar city. Chief development officer Harshika Singh said the growth is being largely driven by the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Under the scheme, households receive subsidies based on system capacity. A 1 kW system gets Rs.45,000 in subsidy, while a 2 kW system receives Rs.90,000. Systems of 3 kW and above are eligible for Rs.1.08 lakh. Officials added that the availability of easy EMI options is also encouraging more households to install rooftop solar systems, marking a gradual shift towards cleaner and more sustainable energy in the region....
